Police: Township Man Stole Grandfather's Safe

A Bethlehem Township man was charged last week for his alleged part in an August burglary at his grandfather’s township home during which a safe containing $100,000 in cash was stolen.

Timothy Paul Bohning, 24, of 2519 Riegel St., with the alleged help of cousin Zach Bohning, who lived with the victim, and his girlfriend Aubrey Arthur of South Bethlehem, broke into the house and stole the safe, along with a shoebox that contained another $3,300 in cash.

The burglary at 3521 Drift Court, Bethlehem Township, happened in the early evening hours of Aug. 5 while the victim, Robert Bohning, was visiting the Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem.

According to the arrest warrant,

• Zach Bohning and Arthur met each other at the home of Tim Bohning’s parents, drove to the victim’s home, entered and looked for and found the safe.
• They removed the safe, put it in the trunk of Arthur’s car and drove to the Walgreen’s parking lot on Linden Street in Bethlehem city where they met Timothy Bohning.
• The three suspects then went to buy some “K2” or synthetic marijuana and drove to Arthur’s home at 722 Atlantic St. in South Bethlehem. They then smoked the synthetic marijuana before Arthur and Timothy Bohning cracked open the safe and took out the money and spread it on Arthur’s bed.
• The suspects agreed that Arthur would hold onto the money for everyone.

Timothy Bohning was arrested Friday and charged with criminal conspiracy to commit burglary, criminal conspiracy to commit theft, criminal conspiracy to receiving stolen property and receiving stolen property, all felonies.

He was arraigned before on-duty District Judge James Barner of Lower Nazareth Township and committed to Northampton County Prison after he failed to post $100,000 bail.

Zach Bohning and Arthur had already been arrested and charged for their alleged part in the crime.
