Police: Suspect Choked Fiancee Unconscious

Fountain Hill man charged with aggravated assault for choking fiancee to unconsciousness on South Bethlehem street.

A man choked his fiancée Sunday night, causing her to pass out and drop to the ground in the middle of a SouthSide street, court records say.

The woman told police that she and her fiancé, Angelo Antonio Villamil Jr., 30, of 831 Cherokee St., Fountain Hill, had an argument around 9:30pm while at her grandmother’s house on the 900 block of Mechanic Street.

She left the house and while walking on the 300 block of Perry Street, Villamil came up behind her and got her into a choke hold. He squeezed her neck so that she passed out for 10 to 15 seconds, falling into the middle of Perry Street, the records say.

She regained consciousness and started yelling “help, help.” Villamil then covered her mouth and hit her face several times, the records say. She eventually was able to break free and run to a nearby establishment and call police.

Police did not find Villamil after a search, but he was taken into custody early Monday.

Villamil was arraigned at 2:30am by on-duty District Judge Todd Strohe of Bangor on charges of aggravated assault. He was committed to Northampton County Prison after failing to post $25,000 bail.
