Police: SouthSide Woman was Peddling Stolen Goods

Suspect with "extensive criminal history" told police she was given items to sell.

A South Bethlehem woman who readily admitted to police that she is a prostitute with a cocaine addiction was arrested for allegedly peddling stolen goods on a street corner in June, according to court records.

Tara Callis, 27, of 632 Ontario St., was spotted selling DVDs and video games out of a soft black case on Broadway near Fiot Avenue at about 10 a.m. on June 14, a court record says.

Less than two hours earlier, a resident of 450 Birkel Ave. had reported to that a case of DVDs and video games worth about $3,000 had been stolen overnight, according to the affidavit.

That victim also reported that a television and a laptop computer had also been stolen. After police took the case from Callis, the burglary victim claimed them as his, court papers say.

Callis told police she received the case from a man she knows as “T.” She said she went to T’s house earlier in the morning and noticed the case, a television and a laptop computer that she had not seen before were there, the affidavit says.

Callis said T told her to take the case and sell the video games for $5 each and the DVDs for $3 each.

The warrant says that Callis has “an extensive criminal history” that includes arrests for multiple drug violations, assault and theft.

Callis was arrested Thursday and arraigned on a charge of felony receiving stolen property before night duty District Judge Patricia Romig-Passaro and committed to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $5,000 bail.
