Police: SouthSide Man Hit Pregnant Girlfriend

Suspect charged with aggravated assault; pregnant girlfriend has cut above eye and complained of neck, back and stomach pain.

A Bethlehem man has been charged with assaulting his pregnant girlfriend.

Police spoke to the girlfriend of Jose Luis Flores, 36, when they arrived at Flores’ home at 439 Cherokee St. around 3:45am Sunday.

The woman said she and Flores “had been in a verbal argument” when he began to strike her in the face, court records say.

She told police she was pregnant “and that he [Flores] had known about it,” the records say.

Police saw a cut above her left eye that was beginning to show signs of bruising and swelling. They also saw a cut on her left arm. And the woman was complaining of neck, back and stomach pain.

Flores was charged with aggravated assault and simple assault. He was arraigned around 7am Sunday by on-duty District Judge Robert Hawke of Lehigh Township and committed to Northampton County Prison after failing to post $20,000 bail.
