Police: Pregnant Girlfriend was Punched, Choked

SouthSide man charged with simple assault and terroristic threats after punching, choking and threatening pregnant girlfriend.

A SouthSide man choked and punched his pregnant girlfriend in the middle of the night last month, threatened to kill her and said he would force her to have an abortion, court records say.

Davi Miquel Ramos, 23, was picked up Wednesday – about a month after the alleged incident at the home of the girlfriend’s mother on the 1200 block of Steel Avenue.

The girlfriend told police the incident was triggered when she questioned Ramos about being out drinking while on probation in Northampton County.

  • Police arrived around 4am June 24 -- a Sunday -- at the Steel Avenue home and spoke to the girlfriend, who said she is three-months pregnant and that the child’s father is Ramos. She said she and Ramos were living at her mother’s home.
  • She said Ramos came home “after going out drinking with friends.” She said she questioned him about his decision to drink despite being on probation in Northampton County.
  • She said he became upset with her and choked her with his hands “until she was unable to speak or breathe.” He also punched her in the back of the head and grabbed her by the hair. She had a bloody lip, a bloody nose, some scratches, and pain in her head. Police also saw a mark on the back of her hand.
  • She said that during the incident, Ramos told her he would kill her and force her into a car and take her somewhere “to injure/kill her.” She said he also told her he was going to force her to have an abortion.

Ramos, whose address is listed as 630 Wyandotte St., was charged with simple assault, terroristic threats and harassment. He was arraigned Wednesday night by on-duty District Judge Douglas Schlegel of Wind Gap and released on $20,000 unsecured bail.

The records say Ramos was on probation for a 2011 simple assault case in Bethlehem.
