Police: Lehigh Student Admits He Wasn't Mugged

Instead, Mikeal Borneo lost $4,000 playing games at the Sands

It turns out that one of the two Lehigh University students who told police over the weekend wasn’t.

Mikael Borneo didn’t get robbed of $4,000 after all. He lost it at the , police said today.

Borneo, 23, of 507 E. Fifth St., Bethlehem, admitted to detectives on Monday that he had lied about the robbery that he said took place at Polk and E. Morton streets on Saturday night, police said.

He had told police that three dark-skinned men, all in their early 20s had approached him, one with a knife, and took his wallet and cell phone.

But police checked electronic street surveillance records, which revealed that no such robbery had occurred, police said through a news release.

On Monday, Borneo admitted to detectives that he had lost all $4,000 playing games at the Sands on Friday and Saturday.

Police said Borneo will be charged with making false reports to law enforcement, a misdemeanor, and will receive a criminal summons through the mail.
