Police: City Man Sold Drugs to Undercover Cop

Alleged crack dealer met with undercover officer in the parking lot of Newburg Inn in Lower Nazareth Township in January.

A Bethlehem man is charged with selling crack cocaine to an undercover police officer in the parking lot of The Newburg Inn in Lower Nazareth Township, according to court records.

Juan Virgilio, 24, of 51 W. Spruce St., allegedly made the sale to an undercover officer on the evening of January 5, the arrest warrant says. Virgilio was arrested and arraigned on drug charges on Sunday night before he was committed to Northampton County Prison.

According to the arrest affidavit:

  • The undercover officer, working with the Colonial Regional Police Department, initially made arrangements with Virgilio to buy crack cocaine in the parking lot of the Lafayette Ambassador Bank on Newburg Road. Before the meeting, Virgilio called the undercover officer to change the meeting place to Portobello.
  • While driving to the meeting place, the undercover cop spotted Virgilio walking along Newburg Road near The Newburg Inn and pulled into the parking lot there.
  • Virgilio got into the back seat of the undercover officer’s car and sold him .25 grams of crack cocaine for $60 and left.
  • The substance purchased was tested at a lab to confirm that it was crack cocaine.

Virgilio is charged with delivery of a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and criminal use of a communications facility (cellular telephone) – all felonies. He was also charged with possession of crack cocaine, a misdemeanor.

Bail was set at $50,000 by night duty .
