Police: City Man Fought Neighbors, Punched Cop

A Bethlehem man was jailed Friday after he allegedly fought with his neighbors and assaulted a city police officer.

John Vincent Donohue III, 21, of 1925 Kemmerer St., is charged with two counts of aggravated assault, as well as reckless endangerment, simple assault, resisting arrest and harassment.

According to court records:

• Officer Rob Hoppes responded to Donohue's address for a reported assault. There, he met with Donohue's sister, who said he had come home either drunk or on drugs and had assaulted a woman inside his home.
• Some neighbors had gone inside to try to keep Donohue in check. The officer went inside the house and saw three men trying to restrain Donohue. Hoppes told the men to step back and tried to cuff Donohue.
• Donohue fought with Hoppes, and began pulling away.
• When Hoppes told him "You're under arrrest," Donohue replied "No I'm not." He also called Hoppes a racial slur.
• Donohue got away from Hoppes, police say, and punched him in the chest. Hoppes was ultimately able to restrain and cuff Donohue. 

Donohue was arraigned before District Judge Gay Elwell in Easton and sent to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail.
