Police Chiefs to Compete at Tree Toss for a Cause

Bethlehem City and Bethlehem Township police chiefs will go toe to toe at the annual Christmas Tree toss to raise money for domestic violence victims.

Police chiefs must have many skills but here's one that probably isn't on too many resumes: the ability to toss a Christmas tree a fair ways.

As per tradition, this Saturday's Christmas Tree Toss on Stefko Boulevard will pit Bethlehem Police Chief Jason Schiffer against Bethlehem Township Police Chief Daniel Pancoast.

The event, which starts at 2 p.m. at the Meineke Car Care Center on Stefko, raises money for Turning Point of the Lehigh Valley, which shelters survivors of domestic violence.

Those attending, which typically include a horse, a goat and bagpipers, will parade from Meineke north to Jack Williams Tire. According to tradition, the loser of last year's toss -- in this case Pancoast -- must walk a horse that carries the winner -- Schiffer.

The police departments urge everyone to stop by to throw a tree and make a donation to Turning Point.
