Nude, Uninvited Guest Fought Homeowner, Cop: Police

A 5 a.m. knock from a strange woman on a Northeast Bethlehem door led to a bizarre series of events, according to court papers.

A naked 40-year-old woman who had entered a Northeast Bethlehem home uninvited would not leave, punching and kicking a police officer who tried to escort her out, according to court papers.

Sally Suzanne Campbell of 2046 Huntington St., Bethlehem, was arraigned Thursday on multiple charges stemming from the October incident, including aggravated assault of a police officer.

The bizarre incident occurred on Oct. 20 in the 500 block of Elmhurst Avenue, about a half-mile from Campbell’s home, according to the arrest affidavit.

At 5 that morning, a Sunday, a woman who was later identified as Campbell knocked on the door to the home occupied by a 70-year-old man, police said. The man did not know Campbell—who at this time was clothed—but let her in anyway, he told police, because he thought she needed help.

After the homeowner gave Campbell a glass of water, she went to the bathroom and emerged nude, police said.

Then, according to the affidavit:

  • The homeowner told Campbell to put her clothes on and leave. Campbell said she was in “God’s clothes,” then went to the homeowner’s bedroom and got under the covers.
  • The man told police that he decided to let his uninvited guest sleep for a while. But after about 15 minutes, Campbell emerged and got violent “for no reason.” She punched him, pulled his hair and grabbed him by his arms and tried to pull him out of the house.
  • The homeowner then called to his 24-year-old son, who was downstairs. The son came up and managed to get Campbell’s arms off of his father.
  • Sometime after Bethlehem police Sgt. Rodney Bronson arrived, Campbell was calm, but naked and seated on the kitchen floor. But when Bronson went to get Campbell’s clothes, she said to the homeowner: “Get back here Satan.” With that, she got off the floor and came after Bronson, throwing punches that the cop was able to block.
  • Bronson was able to get hold of Campbell’s arms and had her up against a table, when she “mule kicked” him in the leg. Even after Bronson had Campbell on the ground, she continued to resist, kicking at his legs as he tried to handcuff her.
  • The officer needed help from the homeowner’s son to get Campbell handcuffed.

In addition to aggravated assault, Campbell was charged with simple assault, resisting arrest and two counts of harassment. She was arraigned in front of District Judge James Narlesky and released on 10 percent of $20,000 bail.
