Man With 33 Prior Arrests Back in Custody: Police

South Bethlehem man with 12 aliases and a heroin habit and wanted for 'investigative purposes' tried to run from police, court records say.

A city man listed in court records as having 33 prior arrests in other states and using 12 aliases is back in police custody—for allegedly giving a false ID and running from police.

Roberto Negron Nieves, 51, also listed in the records as using three bags of heroin a day, was stopped shortly after 10 Saturday morning at Buchanan and Jackson streets in South Bethlehem.

The records say, without elaborating, that he was wanted for “investigative purposes.”

But he ran from police after being ordered to stop and surrender, according to a criminal complaint filed by city Officer Joshua J. Schnalzer.

He is also accused of giving a false ID. The records say he identified himself as “Pedro Jimenez” and later refused to provide his real name.

An information sheet in Nieves’ file says he has 33 prior arrests in other states. The nature of the arrests and the names of the states are not listed. But the sheet lists a 2012 local case involving a burglary charge.

Online records say he pleaded guilty in May 2012 to charges by Bethlehem police of criminal trespass and possession of drug paraphernalia. A burglary charge and other charges were dropped.

The records from this case say he uses 12 aliases—from Roberto Biga and Oscar Figueroa to Hector Rivera and Rico X.

Nieves, whose last known address is listed as 627 Fiot St. in the city, was charged with escape/remove self or fail to return and false identification to law enforcement.

He was arraigned Saturday afternoon by on-duty District Judge Todd Strohe of Bangor and committed to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bail.
