Man Threatened to Kill Friend on Christmas Eve, Police Say

Paul Dennis Shine, accused of making terroristic threats and harassment, was additionally charged with DUI and careless driving.

A Bethlehem man twice threatened to kill another man early Christmas Eve inside a city tavern and a short time later, with police listening in on a phone call, threatened to kill him a third time, according to court records.

The alleged victim told police that Paul Dennis Shine, 41, is his “friend.” Nevertheless, Shine grabbed him by the shirt, pushed him up against a wall of the Old Brewery Tavern, 138 W. Union Blvd., and twice said, “I’m going to ------- kill you,” the alleged victim told police.

After police arrived shortly after 1 a.m., they had the alleged victim call Shine, who again threatened to kill him. The man told police Shine was driving a white work van with ladders on top.

Police spotted Shine leaving the tavern in the white van. They performed a traffic stop on the 800 block of Main Street. Shine pulled over but the van ran over the curb. And the other man was across the street with police to identify him.

Police performed standard field sobriety tests on Shine, who “performed poorly,” the records said. The records do not list Shine’s blood-alcohol level.
