Man Taken into Custody After Six-Hour Standoff

Police rush into a west Bethlehem home after a call from concerned neighbors.

The Morning Call reports that a standoff in west Bethlehem that started this morning ended this afternoon with police storming the house.

The city’s Emergency Response Team entered the house at 1860 Cloverdale Road at about 4 p.m. the article states. A man was taken into custody after about six hours.

Bethlehem Deputy Commissioner Craig Finnerty told The Express Times that the police were dispatched at 10:50 a.m. after friends of a woman living at that address called worried about her well being.

The Express Times identified the man as William Ward, who neighbors said lived there with his girlfriend.

The Morning Call states that Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim was called to the area, but it wasn’t clear if it was in connection with this case.
