Man Pleads Guilty to Shooting Mother of His 2 Sons

Luis Alberto Montero is sentenced to 25-50 years in prison for killing Margie Reyes in her South Bethlehem home, while their two sons watched.

 

A New York man today pleaded guilty to the May 2011 shooting death of the mother of his two children during a botched murder-suicide attempt, according to The Express-Times.

Luis Alberto Montero, 43, was sentenced to 25-50 years in state prison for third-degree murder and other charges under the terms of the plea agreement.

Montero admitted that he shot 38-year-old Margie Reyes to death in her home at 1501 E. Seventh St. . He fired the last few shots into Reyes’ body in one of the boys’ bedroom and then turned the gun on himself.

Montero was apparently despondent at the time because he believed he had found evidence that Reyes had been cheating on him. He had written two suicide notes before the shooting.

When his suicide attempt failed, Montero asked his oldest son to finish him, which he refused. He also asked police detectives to kill him while they interviewed him at in Fountain Hill.
