Man, 56, Killed in Route 22 Accident

A New Tripoli man died Saturday at St. Luke's University Hospital-Fountain Hill. His car had been struck from behind while it was stopped on the side of Route 22 earlier in the day.

A 56-year-old New Tripoli man whose car was struck from behind Saturday morning while it was stopped on the side of Route 22 has died, according to the Lehigh County Coroner's office.

Mark Durrenberger was pronounced dead at 8:55 p.m. Saturday at St. Luke's University Hospital-Fountain Hill, where he had been admitted following the crash.

The coroner said he died of multiple blunt force trauma. His death was ruled an accident.

State police at Bethlehem are investigating the crash, which occurred at 5:03 a.m. Saturday on eastbound Route 22 near Schoenersville Road  in Bethlehem.

According to state police, Durrenberger's car was parked on the shoulder of Route 22 when it was struck from behind by a car driven by Michele Malitsch of Whitehall. 

Durrenberger was taken to St. Luke's following the crash. Malitsch was not injured.
