Homeless Man Punched Pregnant Woman in Stomach: Police

No explanation provided for alleged aggravated assault Sunday on Mechanic Street.

By Jack Tobias

A homeless man punched a woman who is eight-months pregnant in the stomach, in the back of her head and on her arms Sunday night on the city's South Side.

Court records say the woman, whose age was not listed, was taken to a hospital, but there is no information on her condition or that of her unborn baby.

Police charged Albert Flores, 29, in connection with the incident on the 1000 block of Mechanic Street.

According to court records, the woman told police after they arrived around 9:30 p.m. that she was hanging out with some friends when someone knocked on the door.

As soon as the door opened, Flores walked in and began yelling at her and punching her, she told police. Her friends ran over to help her and Flores ran from the apartment. The records do not list the relationship between Flores and the woman.

Police learned that Flores was in a white, four-door Chevrolet Impala and was wearing a black and red jacket. They stopped the car in front of Ahart's Market, 410 Montclair Ave. off of Broadway, and Flores was taken into custody.

He was charged with aggravated assault, a first-degree felony, as well as harassment, recklessly endangering another person and simple assault.

He was arraigned at 1 a.m. Monday by on-duty District Judge Todd Strohe of Bangor and committed to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bail.
