He Attacked With a Car, Then a Screwdriver

City man charged with an unusual assault in South Bethlehem.

A South Bethlehem man deliberately drove his car across Fourth Street to hit a parked vehicle on the other side of the street, then got out of his car and stabbed the other car’s driver in the arm with a Phillips head screwdriver early Monday evening, city police said.

Cesar M. Garcia-Bueno, 40, of 1102 E. Fourth St., is in Northampton County Prison following the alleged attack on Jonathan Rosario Ortiz. According to court papers, Garcia-Bueno yelled, “I’m going to kill you” at Ortiz before he stabbed him in the left bicep with the screwdriver. The incident occurred at about 5:30 p.m.

Ortiz required treatment for injuries at St. Luke’s Hospital in Fountain Hill, according to the arrest affidavit on file.

Garcia-Bueno was charged with two counts of aggravated assault (one for the car and one for the screwdriver), simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, terroristic threats, harassment, disorderly conduct and reckless driving.

District Judge Roy Manwaring of Bethlehem set Garcia-Bueno’s bail at $75,000 during arraignment.

Charged with stealing a bookbag and laptop computer

A South Bethlehem man has been charged with walking into a Lehigh University building and stealing a student’s backpack and laptop computer from a room inside, according to court papers.

Ruben Correia, 37, of 728 Wyandotte St., is accused in the theft, which took place in Room 353 of Mohler Lab, 200 W. Packer Ave., on Lehigh University’s campus. The backpack contained a Macbook Pro laptop computer worth about $1,200, according to court papers.

Correia was charged with criminal trespass, theft and receiving stolen property by Lehigh University police.
