Girl Plied with Four Loko Sexually Assaulted, Police Say

After drinking controversial alcoholic drink and tequila, girl vomited, then was sexually assaulted, according to court papers.

A South Bethlehem man is accused of sexually assaulting a girl after giving her alcoholic beverages that made her vomit several times.

Court records say the incident involving the accused, Joel Perez-Rosario, 35, of 1286 Steel Ave., and the girl—the records do not list her age—occurred between 10 p.m. March 23 and 8 a.m. March 24.

A criminal complaint filed by city Detective Sean Molony said the girl told police that, during a visit to Perez-Rosario's home, he gave her Four Loko—a controversial alcoholic beverage—and tequila.

She later got sick and vomited several times, she told police. She said that while she was at the home, Perez-Rosario on two separate occasions entered the bedroom where she was lying alone and sexually assaulted her.

He was arraigned at 7 p.m. Friday by on-duty District Judge Todd Strohe of Bangor and committed to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail.

CORRECTION: According to the Website for the manufacturer of Four Loko, "Phusion Projects voluntarily reformulated Four Loko and all of its products in November 2010 to remove caffeine, guarana and taurine." The original version of this story reported that the beverage still contains caffeine.
