A fire broke out at 515 S. Bergen St. in Fountain Hill Saturday afternoon, drawing volunteer firefighters from the borough of Fountain Hill and nearby municipalities.

A family of three adults were left homeless in the blaze, according to the American Red Cross Greater Lehigh Valley Chapter, which provided clothing, shoes, seasonal garments and food and will follow up with the family for additional services, as needed, according to an agency spokeswoman.

No one was home when the fire started and there were apparently no injuries as a result of the fire, according to The Express Times.

At about 2:45 p.m., Broadway was closed at its intersection with S. Bergen, as flames shot out of the roof of the two-story duplex home that was ablaze.

Firefighters could be seen working frantically to deliver water to the blaze, as dozens of onlookers filled the streets and black smoke poured out of the building.

A woman who arrived at the scene on foot and screaming that it was her house that was on fire was being comforted in the parking lot of a nearby business.

Fountain Hill police were helping to detour traffic around the road closure.

As of 5 p.m., Broadway was still closed to traffic and 645 customers of PPL in Fountain Hill and Bethlehem were without power, including several businesses along Broadway.
