Former State Wrestling Champion Killed in Crash

Brian Alfred Statum won state wrestling titles for Liberty in 1975 and 1976.

A Bethlehem man was killed early this morning in a one-car accident along Conestoga Street, which city police say is still under investigation.

The deceased is Brian Alfred Statum, 54, of the 900 block of Broadway in Bethlehem, according to a police news release. The Express-Times is reporting that Statum was a two-time state wrestling champion, winning titles in 1975 and 1976 while he attended .

Police said they were called to the scene at about 1:20 a.m. and arrived to find Statum’s car had crashed into another parked vehicle on the 600 block of Conestoga Street.

Statum needed to be extricated from the car by emergency personnel, but he was pronounced dead at in Fountain Hill at 1:50 a.m.
