Drunk Driver Led Chase on Freemansburg Ave, Police Say

Bethlehem Township police say driver from Brooklyn wouldn't stop despite flashing lights and sirens.

Bethlehem Township police say a Brooklyn man led an officer on a mile and a half chase Thursday morning before getting charged with driving while under the influence.

Donnell Nelson, 38, is charge with fleeing/attempting to elude police, DUI, speeding and driving without a license.

According to court records, police tried to stop Nelson for speeding around 2:28 a.m. on Freemansburg Avenue. Despite the flashing lights and blaring sirens, Nelson allegedly kept driving for 1.6 miles.

He ultimately pulled over on Stefko Boulevard, police said. The officer noticed Nelson smelled of alcohol, and gave him a sobriety test, which he failed. At the Bethlehem DUI center, Nelson refused to provide a blood sample, police said.

Nelson was arraigned before District Judge Daniel Corpora in Easton, and sent to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $5,000 bail.
