Cops: Drunk Man Left Bloody Trail in Apartment Building
Alleged trespasser cut his hand when he smashed a window at Main Street building, then climbed to second floor to bang on door, leaving a trail of blood, police say.
A drunken 45-year-old man who cut his right hand when he shattered a front-door window around 1am Friday at a Bethlehem apartment building left a bloody trail as he climbed the stairs and banged on a second-floor unit, court records say.
Police found a large amount of blood on the front door and on the door to the second-floor unit of the two-unit building at 718 Main St.
Outside the upper unit they found the suspect, George Edwin Stokes Jr. of the 600 block of Montgomery Street, Allentown.
He was bleeding from two lacerations on his right hand and told police his last name was Lloyde, which turned out to be false.
Police spoke to both occupants, who said they did not know Stokes and were not expecting anyone else inside.
A criminal complaint filed by city Officer Ryan Danko said police got a call around 1:08am about an unknown male banging on a common front door. While on the way, they were told the male just broke the door’s window and was now slamming on a resident’s door.
Stokes had glassy eyes and smelled of alcohol when police found him on the second floor, the complaint said.
Stokes was charged with criminal trespass, loiter and prowling at nighttime, public drunkenness, criminal mischief, and false identification to law enforcement.
He was arraigned at 6:15am Friday by on-duty District Judge Todd Strohe of Bangor and committed to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $20,000 bail.
