City Police Investigating Theft, Robbery

Thieves cut down utility pole to take 1,500 feet of wire; man assaulted for his bike at Wawa.

Thieves cut down a utility pole on former Bethlehem Steel land and stole 1,500 feet of eight-strand copper wire, according to Bethlehem Police.

The vandalism and theft on Majestic Realty Co. land at 3001 Commerce Center Boulevard was reported on Monday afternoon and remains under investigation.

City police are also investigating a robbery at the Wawa at 2525 Easton Ave., which occurred at about 10:30 p.m. Monday.

It was there and then that a shirtless male with three stars tattooed across his chest punched Michael Matias, 24, of Bethlehem Township, on the side of the head and took his chrome Dyno bicycle, police said. The robber then fled north on East Boulevard, police said.
