City Man Accused of Turning on Ex's Gas Burners

Police: man broke into ex-girlfriend's apartment, stole wallet, jewelry and turned on all of her stove's gas burners.

Bethlehem police say a man broke into his ex-girlfriend's home, stole her wallet and some jewelry, and then turned on all the gas burners on her stove.

Kawan Morrison, 22, of 308 State St., was jailed Tuesday following an altercation with the woman at her Elm Street apartment.

According to court records:

An officer responded to a break-in call Tuesday evening at 912 Elm St. There, he found one of screens removed from a window, and smelled gas. The officer shut off the stove, and called the fire department to help clear the building of gas.

The woman renting the apartment said she'd been in a brief relationship with Morrison. She had told him to leave, but he later returned, and they fought, with Morrison grabbing her shirt.

She got out of the apartment, and called police. Morrison was picked up a few blocks away, carrying the woman's wallet, some jewelry, and her cigarettes.

Morrison was charged with burglary, theft, risking a catastrophe, receiving stolen property, and reckless endangerment. He was arraigned in Easton before on-duty District Judge Daniel Corpora, and sent to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bail.
