City Man Accused of Robbing Cabbie at Gunpoint

SouthSide suspect charged with holding semi-automatic weapon to cab driver's head and demanding all of his money.

Around the time some churches were holding Easter sunrise services, a Bethlehem man robbed a cab driver, pointing a black, semi-automatic handgun at the driver’s head and telling him “give me the f------ s---.”

The robber got away with $156. But the driver and his passenger were able to direct police to the man, in part because they knew him from the neighborhood as “Manny” who lives right by the robbery site.

In fact, the passenger told police she saw “Manny” enter 715 Broadway, which she knew was his address, according to court records. The 6am robbery was at Fiot Street and Broadway.

”Manny” turned out to be Manuel Martinez Jr., 47. He was charged with robbery, simple assault, reckless endangerment and receiving stolen property. He was arraigned later Sunday by on-duty District Judge Douglas Schlegel of Wind Gap and committed to Northampton County Prison after failing to post $50,000 bail.
