Chicken Owner Says He'll Eat Illegal Fowl

Northeast Bethlehem man was cited by police for keeping birds illegally.

Musikfest has the Chicken Lady, but Renwick Street in Northeast Bethlehem has a chicken man.

Armstrong Millien, 43, of 1909 Renwick St. was cited for keeping three live chickens on his property, according to the Bethlehem Police’s daily blotter.

But Armstrong told police he won’t be running afoul of the city’s law prohibiting keeping live chickens for long. He plans to eat the birds this weekend, police said.

City Council banned raising live chickens in 2006 amid concerns that the birds could spread diseases such as salmonella and West Nile Virus.

A knock on Millien’s door this afternoon was not answered. Not a cluck was heard from the back yard either.
