Bethlehem Mother and Son Killed in Car Wreck

67-year-old Clifford Babin Jr. and his mother, Gertrude Babin, 88, both killed in Wednesday morning car crash along Hanoverville Road.

 

An 88-year-old woman and her 67-year-old son – both from Bethlehem – were killed in a in Lower Nazareth Township Wednesday morning, authorities said.

Gertrude M. Babin of 1913 Arlington St. was pronounced dead not long after arriving in the emergency room of in Fountain Hill, according to a news release from the Lehigh County Coroner.

Her son, Clifford J. Babin Jr. of Elizabeth Avenue, who was driving the station wagon involved in the collision, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to The Express Times, which quoted Northampton County Coroner Zachary Lysek.

The son was driving his mother to or from a doctor’s appointment, Clifford J. Babin III, son and grandson of the two victims, told the newspaper.

The driver of the other vehicle, a pickup truck, suffered minor to moderate injuries in the collision, while a dog that was riding with him was killed, police told the newspaper. Authorities have not released the name of the other driver.

The cause of the accident is being investigated by Pennsylvania State Police and Colonial Regional Police. Autopsies on the Babins are scheduled today.
