'Bath Salt' High to Blame for Van Buren St. Gunfire

Drugs found at home where young man fired shots out window; charges pending.

A young man high on “bath salts” is responsible for from his home at 205 Van Buren St. Saturday afternoon, Bethlehem police said today.

No one has been charged in the incident as of yet, though police say charges are pending “until the entire investigation is complete.” The alleged shooter was not named.

Police responded to the scene at about 4:30 p.m. Saturday after reports of gunfire were made. The young man apparently fired his gun out of a bedroom window, police said.

A search warrant was served at the home. A gun, ammunition, drugs and drug paraphernalia were found at the scene police said. The young man was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital in Fountain Hill for treatment, police said.

Brazen Whiskey Theft at state Liquor Store

A man entered the state Wine and Spirits Store on Stefko Boulevard on Saturday night, filled a black bag with about 10 bottles of Jack Daniels whiskey and left without paying for them, city police said.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic male in his early 20s with black hair, a star shaved into the back of his head and a tattoo on his neck. He walked south from the store to a white Nissan Altima in a nearby parking lot and left, police said.

 

Bethlehem Man Charged with Brandishing Unlicensed Firearm

A city man has been charged with carrying firearms without a license after he allegedly went to his ex-girlfriend’s house and threatened her and a new friend with a pistol and physical violence, Bethlehem police said.

Luis Cruz, paid the unwelcome visit to the home at 607 High St. shortly before noon on Sunday, police said. He was arrested, the weapon was recovered and he was committed to Northampton County Prison, police said.
