Allentown Man Flees Wreck 3 Times But Caught

Joseph DeFulvio IV charged with DUI and other offenses after crash in Riverport parking garage.

 

Bethlehem police say an Allentown man tried three times to flee from the scene of an accident early Sunday morning.

According to court records, officers saw 22-year-old Joseph DeFulvio IV crash into a pole at the parking garage at the Riverport Condominiums at 17 W. Second Street.

Police say DeFulvio then tried to drive away, but an officer stopped him and told him to stay in his car. DeFulvio drove off again past several pedestrians, then parked his car, and ran away.

Police chased DeFulvio, and caught him after he tripped and fell. According to police, DeFulvio's breath smelled of alcohol. Police also found a bag of synthetic marijuana in his car, as well as rolling papers.

He was charged with fleeing, reckless endangerment, escape, driving while under the influence, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance, and several traffic citations. DeFulvio was arraigned before on-duty District Judge Gay Elwell in Easton, and sent to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bail.
