Alleged Drunk Driver Jailed After Fleeing Cops
Police tried to stop motorist with expired registration, but he kept driving -- allegedly drunk. "I was trying to get home," he told police.
A Bethlehem man who told police "I was trying to get home" was jailed Wednesday for numerous charges, including driving while under the influence and having a doctored license plate.
According to , Joseph Alvarez, 53, of 744 E. Sixth St., was spotted by a patrol officer Wednesday afternoon at E. Third and Polk streets.

The officer noticed that Alvarez had an expired registration. When the officer tried to stop Alvarez, he allegedly kept driving, finally stopped at the intersection of Buchanan and Lauer streets. He was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after failing a sobriety test.
According to court records, when asked where he'd been headed, Alvarez told the officer "I was trying to get home."

Instead, Alvarez went to Northampton County Prison, after being arraigned before District Judge Richard Yetter in Wilson and failing to post $7,500 bail. He is charged with DUI, feeling/eluding police, and numerous traffic violations.
