Alleged Drug Dealer Crashed Car During Chase, Police Say

3-year-old child sitting in parked car that got hit was unharmed. Driver left trail of drugs along route he fled on foot.

 

Bethlehem police say a city man crashed into a parked car carrying a 3-year-old child during a police chase on Thursday night.

Police later found a trail of drugs on the path that he had fled the crash on foot, court records said. They also allegedly found heroin and marijuana in his car.

Pedro Vera is charged with fleeing or eluding police, failing to stop and render aid at an accident, possession with the intent to deliver drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and multiple traffic-related offenses.

According to court records, police tried to stop Vera, 24, of 1235 Livingston St., for driving with an expired registration on East Garrison Street.

Vera allegedly kept driving, leading police through Linden Street, East Union Boulevard, Penn Street, East Spruce Street and Maple Street, running stop signs and driving on the wrong side of the road.

Court records say Vera got out of the car while it was still moving, causing it to crash into a parked car on the 800 block of Penn Street. The child inside the parked car was unharmed, police said.

Vera was apprehended a few blocks from the crash. Police allegedly discovered heroin and marijuana on the route he had fled.

Vera was arraigned before District Judge Richard Yetter in Wilson, and sent to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $75,000 bail.
