76-Year-Old Woman Charged with Electricity Theft

Police say West Bethlehem woman tampered with a PPL meter to steal more than $1,300 in services from the utility.

 

Bethlehem Police have charged a 76-year-old West Bethlehem woman with theft for allegedly stealing more than $1,300 of electricity from PPL Electric Utilities, according the department’s weekend crime summary.

Ana Rivera of 1617 W. Broad St. allegedly removed a utility meter and tampered with it in order to steal electricity from PPL, according to a case summary.

Police said the total theft of service was $1,312.30. The total amount owed is $1,561.52 when the damaged meter is factored in, police said.

Rivera was charged with theft of services and criminal mischief. It was unclear from the case summary whether Rivera was issued a summons, jailed or released on bail.
