Tell Us: Will You Visit WTC or Flight 93 Memorials?

More and more people are visiting the Flight 93 Memorial and the two new World Trade Center towers that are being built in lower Manhattan

More than 200,000 people are expected to visit the Flight 93 National Memorial this year - almost double the number in 2011, according to an Associated Press report.

New construction at the site is scheduled to begin next year.

United Flight 93 was traveling from Newark, N.J., to San Francisco when it was hijacked by four terrorists in 2001.

The 9/11 Commission says terrorists likely aimed to crash the plane into the White House or the U.S. Capitol, but passngers fought back and the jet went down in a field near Shanksville, Pa.

Will you visit any of the 9/11 sites? Tell us in the comments section below.

At the new multi billion-dollar World Trade Center, two towers are nearing completion and once again dominate the lower Manhattan skyline, according to an Associated Press report.

Developers of the project say:

— Most of the 8-acre memorial quadrangle at the World Trade Center opened last year on the 10th anniversary of the attacks. Since then, some 4.5 million people have visited the memorial, with its twin reflecting pools where the towers stood. But a museum being built in a cavern beneath the plaza is still incomplete. Work all but stopped last fall because of a funding dispute between the memorial foundation and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Joseph Daniels, president of the National Sept. 11 Memorial and Museum, said that once construction resumes it will take more than a year to finish the job, meaning the museum might not open until 2014.

— One World Trade Center, formerly known as the Freedom Tower, will open in 2014 on the northwest corner of the trade center site with 3 million square feet of office space. Tenants so far include magazine publisher Conde Nast and the federal government's General Services Administration. The spire atop the 104-story building will reach the symbolic height of 1,776 feet. There will be observation decks on the 100th, 101st and 102nd floors. The building without the spire has reached its full height of 1,368 feet. It is expected to cost $3.9 billion by the time it is finished.

When 9/11 happened I thought I would never go back to NY. I didn't go back to NY until 8 years later, but still had no desire to visit the site of the attacks. I am heading to NY later this year and hopefully will make it to the 9/11 memorial in NY. Next summer maybe our family will make a trip to Shanksville. I still get a lump in my throat on this day and thinking back to the day of the attacks. I am certain I will need tissues when visiting both of these sites.

We will certainly consider it an honor to visit these sites. Whether we are there or not though, we will remember those who acted bravely to save others. You never know what today will bring. We can only hope to act as bravely as all those who gave their lives to save others. It is one thing to have an occupation where you are supposed to be brave...then it is another thing to actually DO it when needed. Also those on the flight would have never expected to be in the role that they were, and yet they bravely stepped up to save others. THAT is America. I suppose those suicide pilots thought they were "giving all", but others like them need to see who killed innocent civilians on purpose. Romans 12:21 "Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good." May we all do good in memory of those who were brave on 9/11.

I stopped at Flight 93 Memorial in May with my family. I am so glad I went, to see where these American heroes fell. It is a very moving experience, and I encourage people to go there.

I uploaded a picture of the winter of 2008-9 in Shanksville, PA which makeshift memorial was very moving.
Please all remember that there is already a 9/11 memorial COMPLETED at the Pentagon for all those lost in Wash, DC. Our son was in the building but survived OK. Thank God!

Thank you so much for sharing your photo of the makeshift memorial in Shanksville, Robert. We've made it the featured photo with the story now! And we're so glad to know your son survived the Pentagon attack. Thanks again!

I am running two bus trips to the memorial in the next few weeks. So, I am taking 110 people to the memorial. We will also be visiting St. Pauls church, across from the site. The church is a memorial to the search and rescue, then search and recovery workers. Anyone going to the 9/11 Memorial should not miss St. Pauls church. It is a very moving experience!

Just pointing out facts. You are also forgetting that money withdrawn from an IRA or 401k (exceptRead More Roth IRAs) are taxed at withdrawal. I prefer my government not punish good financial actions. Sorry it's a quirk of mine, I think we should reward those who make good decisions, not punish them.

I agree with you Interested Bystander. Problem is that if you punish the ones making the badRead More decisions, the Federal government will be punished all the time. In the current climate, poor decision making gets rewarded by voters. The middle class doesn't have a chance.

Naziti and Caroline Johnson so sorry to take so long to get back to you from your comments onRead More Sunday, May 5th, I didn't think I would have to respond. I re-posted Ken's comment because the REAL issue is "AARP selling out it's faithful supporters for BIG MONEY. So let me break it down so even the Soros trolls understand. ObamaCare guts SS and medicare reserve money by 750 Billion. Which ends these programs as we know them. AARP publicly backs ObamaCare. Seniors confused about OCare but trust AARP and their massive ad campaign for OCare. AARP contributes to re-election AARP becomes insurance provided for OCare. Unleashes host of insurance options that Seniors will be needing to make decisions about in next 2-3 years. Complicate the choices for Seniors so they fall back on who they have trusted in the past. Still unaware of the great deception perpetrated by AARP. OCARE fully enacted 2014. AARP gets steady $$$ insurance income now (not $16 membership fees for whoever posted that line above). SS and MediCare bankrupt (3/4 trillion $ stolen to fund OCare) Result for SENIORS. NO SS or MEDicare it's dissolved or becomes something less. Free OCare that sucks. Pay AARP for supplemental Ins. Prescriptions too expensive to purchase so go without or pay AARP for better plan. AARP richer and more powerful represents Gvmt Seniors - Self rule lost You see they screwed the very people that paid dues for their protection!
