How Will You Feel When the Kids Go Back to School?

Sad? Glad? Relieved? Guilty? No matter what emotions you experience as you pack that lunch or zip up that backpack, there’s probably someone else out there feeling that way too.

Moms Talk is a weekly feature on all Lehigh Valley Patches in which local parents, caregivers and other members of the community are invited to share opinions and advice on parenting topics.

This week’s Moms Talk question relates to the emotions parents and caregivers experience as the kids head back to school.

Are you tired of picking up wet towels and ready for the long hot summer to end? Or, could you use a few more days playing by the pool followed by nights of roasting marshmallows? Perhaps the start of the new school year brings out both sentiments in you – relief that summer is over and the wish that it would never end.

Now matter what emotions you are going through as you switch gears from arranging play dates to overseeing math homework, we want to know how you are feeling and how you cope with those oftentimes mixed emotions:

Now it’s your turn:

Tell us about how you will feel when the kids head back to school.

Our Moms Council members include:

Sad! The end of summer always makes me sad...another summer gone. I feel especially cheated this year cause we're losing a week. We really enjoy our summers around here and are always sorry to see them go. I think I dread the boys going back to school more than they do! I deal with it by starting to plan our fall activities and even our next summer activities!

It is a mixed bag for me. I wish we could have done more over the summer, but at the same time, I am excited to have a routine back. The summers are never long enough, it seems.

Summer was a bit shorter this year, but I feel like we did our fair share of fun things. Even so, I'd love to have a few extra weeks of it. The kids are excited to go back to school, so it's time to switch gears! :)
