Robert Kammetler, 86, Postal Clerk, WWII Army Veteran

Robert and wife Mary Jane had celebrated 60th wedding anniversary in May.

Robert A. Kammetler, Sr., 86, of Bethlehem, died on Wednesday. He was born December 9, 1926 in Bethlehem; son of the late John and Theresa (Feiler) Kammetler.

Robert is survived by his wife, Mary Jane (DeLay) Kammetler. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in May.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Later, he was hired by the U.S. Post Office where he worked as a clerk in the Bethlehem area for 42 years, retiring in 1992. Robert was a parishioner of Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church.

In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by his children, Kathleen Britton of Allentown; Robert Jr. and his wife, Stephanie; Susan Speicher and her husband Jeffrey; Sally Kammetler and William and his wife Maria all of Bethlehem; six grandchildren, Lauren; Brenden; James; Nicole, wife of Paul; Jenna and Julia; his sisters-in-law, Frances Kammetler; Beverly DeLay; Marie DeLay and Betty Kammetler as well as his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Theresa and Julia and his brothers, Joseph, Julius, John, Frank and William.

Robert was an avid bowler until he was 80 years old. He also was a fan of Notre Dame and the Yankees.

A visitation will be held at the Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. and again on Monday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church 730 W. Broad St. Bethlehem. Burial will follow at Holy Saviour Cemetery in Bethlehem.
