Veterans Day: What's Open, What's Closed?

Schools and local government offices are open; banks, post offices and courts are closed.

Monday, is Veterans Day, a federal holiday in honor of those veterans who served their country. 

Most businesses, schools and even local government offices will remain open. However, most banks and county, state and federal government offices will be closed in observance of the holiday.

Bethlehem Area School District schools will remain open, though many of the schools will have special Veterans Day observances. The Bethlehem Area School Board’s Finance and Facilities committees will meet in the evening.

Bethlehem City Hall will be open and the holiday does not affect recycling collection. In fact, autumn leaf pickup begins on Monday.

Bethlehem Township offices will be open.

The Bethlehem Area Public Library will be open.

The Northampton and Lehigh county courthouses are both closed, as are all of the district judge offices in Bethlehem.

All Northampton and Lehigh county government offices are closed.

LANTA buses will operate on a normal weekday schedule.

The U.S. Post Office is closed. There will be no mail pickup or delivery.

State Offices are closed.

Pennsylvania Department of Transportation driver's license and photo centers are closed. (Online services are available. www.dmv.state.pa.us)

Federal Offices are closed. 

Most Pennsylvania Liquor Stores will be open per their regularly scheduled hours, some will have alternate hours or remain closed on Veterans' Day. Please call ahead. You can find a directory of PA Wine & Spirits Stores and phone numbers at www.FineWineandGoodSpirits.com. 

Since it is a federal bank holiday, most banks will be closed.

Most retail establishments and many restaurants and eateries will remain open. Some privately owned restaurants close Mondays as a matter of routine. Check with your destination in advance.
