Miller Heights Home Invasion, Gunfire at Birthday Party Top Bethlehem News

Death penalty sought in SouthSide killing and Hecktown Road fire also made headlines.

Two masked gunmen entered a Miller Heights home late Tuesday night and robbed seven occupants of “personal items” including cash and cell phones, Bethlehem Township police said.

A Marvine-Pembroke teen-ager celebrated her nineteenth birthday by drinking booze and firing a couple of gunshots into the air as she and a few pals drove to a liquor store to buy more alcohol, Bethlehem police said. Jasmine Mingo, 19, of 1327 Hilton St., and her friends Anthony C. Holmes, 21, of Bethlehem, and Alphonso Narciso Matos, 20, of Allentown, are all facing a number of charges.

Prosecutors are pursuing the death penalty for an Allentown man charged with killing a Bethlehem woman outside of the Puerto Rican Beneficial Society in December.

Two people, including a firefighter, were hurt and a family was displaced by an early-morning fire on Hecktown Road in Bethlehem Township Tuesday.

Reynolds Lays Out Plan to Bolster Neighborhoods

The Democratic primary race for Bethlehem mayor began to pick up steam this week as both candidates—Councilmen Bob Donchez and J. William Reynolds—held news conferences to talk about what some of their biggest priorities will be if elected. Reynolds said he would start a network of neighborhood councils to meet regularly with city administrators to address neighborhood problems. Donchez said public safety would be his highest priority, as he talked about increasing the number of police officers and bringing a fire truck back to the Dewberry Street ambulance station.
