Breast Cancer Awareness Month Events Planned

Walk, run, party or buy a T-shirt as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and events and fundraisers are planned across the Lehigh Valley.

Breast cancer affects one in eight women at some point during their life.

Saturday, Oct. 8 - Fourth Annual Coaches vs. Cancer (CVC) Golf Tournament: At Whitetail Golf Course in Bath. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m.; a cookout and award ceremony is at 1:30 p.m. Coaches vs. Cancer is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. The local event was begun by KyleKern and friends. Golf packages are $85 per person; cookout only is$30.

The Coaches vs. Cancer of Lehigh Valley Campaign will be kicked off with the Tip-Off Breakfast Oct. 30 at , featuring guest speaker Coach Bob Hurley. Tickets are $15. 570-562-9749 or e-mail Tonyehn.verkitus@cancer.org.

Tuesday, Oct. 11 - Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition Annual Conference: $65 per person, though a limited number of travel grants, as well as fulland partial scholarships are available. Anyone who needs assistance in paying for attendance to the conference should apply, although priority is given to breast cancer survivors. Additional requirements apply. Call for details. Friday, Oct. 14, 3 to 7 p.m. -  Josh Early Candies Women's 5K Classic Health Expo: Health screenings, refreshments,shopping, giveaways. 18th Annual Women's 5K Classic race participants can also pick up race-day packets. Cedar Crest College, Cedar Crest and Hamilton boulevards, Allentown. www.womens5kclassic.org

Saturday, Oct. 15 -- Annual Women's 5K Classic Race: Festivities begin at 9 a.m., with parade of champions at 9:15 a.m. Run/walk event begins at 9:40 a.m. Lehigh Parkway, Allentown. www.womens5kclassic.org

Saturday, Oct. 15, 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. - Think Pink: Cosmopolitan will host a Breast Cancer Awareness Month Pink Party including cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, a three-course dinner and silent auction in Allentown. All proceeds benefit Lehigh Valley Health Network's Pink Ribbon Fund, which provides financial assistance to families of breast cancer patients. The night will culminate with a rooftop Sky Lounge party featuring pink cocktails and dancing with B104's DJ Cap Cee. All-inclusive tickets are $125; Sky Lounge party only is $25. Saturday, Oct. 29, 9 a.m. - 2011 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Lehigh Valley: This downtown Bethlehem fundraising walk kicks off from Spring Street, next to the Hill-to-Hill Bridge. Thursday, Oct. 27, 5 to 7 p.m.-  Pink Vespa Giveaway Party: Lehigh Valley Grand Prix is hosting a Pink Vespa Giveaway Party for their friends from Prudential Patt White & The Premier Group, Eurosports and The Get In Touch Foundation. Entry is a $5 suggested donation and races are only $12 if you wear pink. A pink Vespa will also be given away at the end of the evening. Tickets to enter the raffle are $15 or 3 for $40. Throughout October – Bethlehem Fire Department T-shirt Fundraiser: Bethlehem city firefighters will be wearing pink uniform t-shirts instead of the department's usual navy blue which they will also be selling to raise money for cancer research. $10 each through size XL; $12 for size 2XL or larger. Available at the city’s firehouse at 419 E. Fourth St., Bethlehem, and at all four locations of MP Uniform & Supply Co. including their 2733 West Emmaus Ave., Allentown and 2109 Freemansburg Ave., Easton locations. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, they will also be for sale at the gift shop at in Fountain Hill through the end of the month.
