A group of Walmart employees conspired to steal more than $57,000 in electronics and other items from the Linden Street store from November until February, according to a criminal complaint filed by Bethlehem Township police.

Bridge Damage Forces Freemansburg Ave. Closure

A portion of Freemansburg Avenue from Pembroke Road to Willow Park Road will be closed indefinitely until a bridge that spans the Nancy Run can be repaired. An inspection of the Nancy Run bridge this week discovered scouring by stream water has undermined a portion of the bridge's western abutment, leaving a void beneath the bridge's supporting structure.

Private Garbage Collection Favored by Mayoral Candidates

If Mayor John Callahan does not eliminate private home trash collection before he leaves office, you can expect that his successor—whether it is J. William Reynolds or Bob Donchez—will allow private contractors to continue picking up Bethlehem residential trash. However, the two Democratic mayoral candidates did disagree during a forum held Thursday on changing the structure of City Council to add seats that represent specific neighborhoods.

Free Musikfest Performers Roster Released

Among the nationally known acts who will be gracing the free concert stages will be North Carolina rockers Southern Culture on the Skids, hip-hop fusion sensation Gangstagrass and Louisiana musical treasure Buckwheat Zydeco, who will perform at Volksplatz on Aug. 7.
