5 Things to Know Today

Rain could dampen scheduled Route 33 construction; job fairs scheduled at CareerLink.

Good morning Bethlehem. Today is Wednesday, November 16, 2011. Christmas is 38 days away. And thanks to some retailers, every one of them is a shopping day.

  1. Happy 80th birthday legendary blues guitarist Hubert Sumlin. Sumlin spent years as the lead guitarist in (Rock N’ Roll Hall of Famer) Howlin’ Wolf’s band. Ranked 65th in Rolling Stone Magazine’s 100 greatest guitarists of all time, Sumlin’s recordings influenced a host of musicians who followed, including the late, great Stevie Ray Vaughan. Sumlin was in Bethlehem in September, appearing on stage with the Chicago Blues All Stars at the during the . He was hooked up to an oxygen tank, but he could still play like one of the true greats.
  2. The National Weather Service is forecasting a 90 percent chance of rain and a high of 59 degrees. An umbrella and a jacket are well-advised.
  3. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has scheduled highway construction work along the northbound lanes of Route 33 at its interchange with Route 22. Further south, between Interstate 78 and William Penn Highway, bridge inspections are scheduled. That could mean lane closures and traffic delays. However, this could all be postponed if the National Weather Service forecast is correct.
  4. C&S Wholesale Grocers is hiring order selectors and warehouse incentive selectors. The company will be recruiting would-be employees at CareerLink of the Lehigh Valley, 1601 Union Boulevard, Allentown, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Amazon.com is also recruiting at CareerLink today. Also, get your resume critiqued by an expert from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.
  5. The city Zoning Hearing Board meets in Town Hall at 7 p.m. The only item on the agenda involves the former , 306 Wyandotte St., where a new owner hopes to exchange one residential zone special exception – a funeral home – for another - a house of worship.
