5 Things to Know Today

It's Trick-or-Treat night in Bethlehem, plus a masquerade ball at SouthSide Comfort Suites.

Good morning Bethlehem. Today is Friday, October 28, 2011. Here comes the weekend.

  1. Got any unwanted or outdated prescription medicines around the house? Gather them up today so you’ll be ready Saturday to take them to one of three Bethlehem area locations to be disposed of as part of Police will be ready to accept those unwanted and old prescriptions at the , the and the state police barracks on Airport Road.
  2. Make sure you’ve got the house stocked with candy. The Trick-or-Treaters will be arriving between 6 and 8 p.m. this evening in Bethlehem and Bethlehem Township as well as Fountain Hill, Freemansburg and Hanover Township.
  3. After you get the kids ready with their costumes, treat bags and flashlights, be sure to snap a picture of your little ghouls, wizards and superheroes and submit them to the costume contest. You can win $1,031 for the charity of your choice or a trip for two to New York or Los Angeles to meet celebrity supermodel Heidi Klum. A panel of judges, led by Heidi, will pick the 10 most original and unique costumes from across the country as winners. Click for more details.
  4. For the second straight week, high school football in Bethlehem is highlighted by a cross-town matchup. This week, the 3-5 Golden Hawks of play the homestanding Patriots (6-2) at BASD Stadium at 7 p.m. Another key Lehigh Valley Conference matchup has the Hurricanes visiting the Easton Red Rovers in a tilt between two 6-2 teams. Now on a two-game winning streak, the Crusaders (2-6) visit the 1-7 Salisbury Falcons.
  5. The first-ever South Bethlehem Masquerade Ball, a costume dance party for adults, will start at 9 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom, presented by the Downtown Bethlehem Association. Join the pre-party at starting at 8 p.m., which will be followed by a march to the hotel. (No word on an after party.) The ball will feature DJ Tanner and DJ Hot Metal of , and a live performance by Eric Vain. There will be a cash bar, food samples, and a silent auction, to raise money for the Unity House. There will be candy and prizes for the best costumes as well. Tickets are $10 each and will be available at the door.
