Good morning Bethlehem. Today is Monday, September 19, 2011. Welcome to the working week.

  1. On this day 29 years ago, Scott Fahlman, a computer scientist at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, posted the first documented emoticons -- smiley, :-) and sad :-( -- on the university’s computer bulletin board. Long before home computers, and cell phones became ubiquitous, Fahlman’s inventions forever changed the way we communicate.
  2. PennDOT crews will be cutting brush along the eastbound lanes of Route 22 between Schoenersville Road and Route 191. There could be lane restrictions. Expect delays. Similarly, a shoulder-widening project along Applebutter Road will also result in lane restrictions and could cause travel delays.
  3. The Amazon.com warehouse in Upper Macungie Township has more than 100 openings for a variety of jobs in all three shifts. CareerLink of the Lehigh Valley, 1601 Union Boulevard, Allentown, is hosting a job fair for prospective employees from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. today and every weekday through September 30.
  4. meets at 6 p.m. at the Education Center on Sycamore Street in Facilities and Human Resources committee meetings.
  5. Commissioners meet at 7 p.m. tonight at the township building on Easton Avenue. The agenda looks light.
