5 Things to Know Today

The rain continues and "What Could Have Been" at Coca Cola Park.

Good morning, Bethlehem. Today is Monday, August 15, 2011. Was that not ever? Welcome to the working week.

  1. Just to keep the mood right where it is, rain and thunderstorms remain likely for much of the day. The chance of precipitation diminishes gradually as we move toward the evening and into Tuesday, when the National Weather Service says this misery finally comes to an end.
  2. Brush up on your job interviewing techniques during a special workshop at CareerLink Lehigh Valley, 1601 Union Boulevard, Allentown, starting at 1:30 p.m. The presenter will reveal interviewing skill "secrets" with a step-by-step process from arrival to departure.
  3. Bethlehem Township Commissioners hold one of their regular meetings at 7 p.m. at the on Easton Avenue. The agenda includes consideration of a labor agreement with one set of township employees.
  4. The Bethlehem Area School Board holds its regular monthly meeting at 7 p.m. at . The board is scheduled to consider looking at refinancing more of its problematic variable rate bonds and interest rate swaps, in favor of a combination of variable rate and fixed rate borrowing.
  5. The Lehigh Valley IronPigs have “What Could Have Been Night” at Coca Cola Park. For tonight, the IronPigs will be known as the Gobblers, the name that finished in second place in 2007’s “Name The Team” contest. The team will wear special uniforms (and host a charity jersey auction), an unveiling of an alternative mascot -- “Gobbler” -- and a cap giveaway for the first 3,000 adults. The night will also feature a round of bonus baseball as Sunday night’s scheduled game with the Toledo Mud Hens was suspended in the third inning – with the score tied 1-1 – because of (what else?) rain. The suspended game will pick up at 6:05 p.m., (assuming the weather cooperates) and will be followed by the game that had been scheduled.
