5 Things to Know Today

Time for some Jell-O pudding; it's Bill Cosby's birthday.

Good morning, Bethlehem. Today is Tuesday, July 12, 2011, 24 days until Musikfest.

  1. Happy birthday, Bill Cosby, comedian, actor, writer, television producer, Jell-O Pudding pitch man. The native Philadelphian is 74 years old today. Figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi turns 40 today; actress Cheryl Ladd, who was the singing voice of Melody Valentine in the cartoon television series Josie and the Pussycats before she became one of Charlie’s Angels, turns 60; and actress Mel Harris, best known for playing Hope Murdoch Steadman on the television show thirtysomething, was born in Bethlehem 55 years ago today.
  2. We should have our second straight day of 90-degree temperatures, only today will be hotter and stickier than Monday, with a forecast high of 94 degrees and a 30-percent chance of thunderstorms. We are just outside the area for which a heat advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service.
  3. The inspection of the Airport Road bridges that cross Route 22 are expected to continue today, causing possible lane restrictions and delays in both directions during the day. The same could be said of roadside flora maintenance along the length of the highway through Northampton County. Also, more brush cutting is planned along Route 412 between Cherry Lane and Silvex Road. Expect lane restrictions and delays there, too. Do we even have to mention the south side of the Hill-to-Hill Bridge?
  4. will open at 3 p.m. with a selection of locally grown fruits, vegetables, herbs, plants and flowers, as well as locally produced meats, cheeses, breads and other baked goods.
  5. What to do tonight? Well if you don’t want to stay in or hit a to watch start the All-Star Game for the National League, there is always trivia night at on Elizabeth Avenue.
