  1. Today is Thursday, May 19. It is the 423rd anniversary of the launch of the Spanish Armada, an attempt by King Philip II to conquer England. The force of 130 ships and 55,000 men was defeated by August. It is also the 66th birthday of legendary Who guitarist Pete Townsend and the 67th birthday of actor Peter Mayhew, better known to most of you as Chewbacca from Star Wars.
  2. The weather forecast is once again soggy, though the flood watch has been lifted. There is a chance of thunderstorms this afternoon and tonight with a forecast high of 72 degrees.
  3. The Theis-Cornfeld Yard Waste Facility on Schoenersville Road is closed for renovations today. It is scheduled to reopen on Friday.
  4. on Route 512 has the lowest gas price in Bethlehem at $3.83 a gallon. The two Turkey Hill stations, the Gulf at Linden and Elizabeth and the Quick Fill at Linden and Macada are all charging $3.85. Otherwise, there is no reason to pay more than $3.87 a gallon anywhere today.
  5. The Lehigh Valley IronPigs beat the Scranton Wilkes-Barre Yankees in Scranton on Wednesday, and are now in first place in the International League’s North Division with a two-game lead.
