Volunteers Clean Up Downtown

A record number of volunteers cleaned up downtown Bethlehem in honor of Earth Day

A record number of volunteers - including a team of local editors from Patch - spent Saturday morning in downtown Bethlehem picking up trash and planting flowers.

The project was part of the Downtown Bethlehem Association's Earth Day celebration. Close to 70 people participated.

Volunteers assembled at Main and Broad Streets around 9 a.m. supplied breakfast featuring fresh fruit and home-baked goods.

Thank you volunteers. Downtown Bethlehem looks wonderful. Let's celebrate Earth day every day and pick up a few pieces of litter daily.

Yes, thank you to volunteers everywhere for cleaning up our parks, waterways, streets and highways. What makes all of this ironic is nearly all of the debris and litter that they clean up was put their deliberately. It seems one part of the population uses the environment as their personal waste can, and the other half empties it. What's wrong with that picture?
