Closed for two years, the Perkins Restaurant & Bakery in South Bethlehem will re-open its doors this week.
The chain restaurant, well known for its fresh baked goods and mammoth muffins, will have a celebratory grand opening starting at 8 a.m. Monday.
The event will feature a ribbon cutting at 8:30 am, followed by the raising of a 20-by-30-foot American flag.
Each visitor to the grand opening celebration will receive a special promotional coupon. Later in the day, the celebration will continue with face painting for the kids and other specials, according to a news release from the Downtown Bethlehem Association.
The restaurant at 205 W. Third St. closed in July 2010 as road construction projects – including the widening of Third Street and the construction of new ramps for the Hill-to-Hill Bridge – began to dominate the landscape.
With a needed reconfiguration of its parking lot and some financial trouble for the chain, the restaurant’s reopening started to look uncertain in 2011. The wait is finally over.
