Rite Aid Recalls Butter Cookies

Drug store chain says tins of exclusive cookie brand may cause diarrhea, vomiting.

Rite Aid has recalled 12-ounce tins of butter cookies because of the potential for the presence of a contaminant that can cause diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, according to this alert on the chain drug store’s website.

The recall affects 85,000 tins of cookies packaged under the Rich Fields brand name, which is sold exclusively in Rite Aid stores, and only applies to 12-ounce tins featuring a decorative castle or Christmas designs.

Affected products can be identified by the UPC codes 01249596519 and 88411804619 located directly beneath the bar code on the bottom of each tin.

The alert says that the possibility of any serious health consequences from the contaminant -- Bacillus cereus – is remote.

Nonetheless, the store advises that customers should not eat the cookies and return them to any Rite Aid store for a full refund.
