Legendary singer, songwriter and former 1950s teen idol Paul Anka serenaded the executives of the Las Vegas Sands Corp. and Bethlehem Mayor John Callahan at the official grand opening of the Sands Bethlehem Casino Hotel on Thursday.
The hotel actually opened for the Memorial Day weekend, but the grand opening celebration took place on the second anniversary of the Sands Bethlehem Casino opening.
Michael A. Leven, president and chief operating officer of Las Vegas Sands told those assembled for the opening ceremony that more is coming soon.
An upscale shopping mall will have a “soft opening” with about six new shops come November. The plan is to have the mall fully opened with more than 30 shops by Presidents Day 2012.
A 50,000-square-foot events center, capable of handling trade shows, conventions and performances is also slated to open by February.
Anka, who performed one of his signature songs, “My Way,” with lyrics rewritten especially for this occasion, is performing at 7:30 p.m. tonight at a 2,000-seat tent outside the casino in a benefit for ArtsQuest and the construction of the festival center at the SteelStacks campus.
More to come on the opening day events ...
