Free and Discounted Summer Movies

Kids and families love to enjoy the movies, but so often it's too expensive. Here's your opportunity to sit back, relax, stay cool and enjoy the sites and sounds of a local theater.

Every summer, a handful of theaters around the Lehigh Valley offer free or discounted summer movie series for children and parents. What better way to catch a flick, beat the heat AND save some dollars?

Here is a listing of some of the local theaters offering summer programs:

Every Tuesday and Wednesday at 10 a.m. beginning June 21 with the final showing on August 10.

Doors open at 9:30. Movies start at 10 a.m. Get there early to make sure to get a good seat – these showings fill up FAST!

All movies are rated G or PG. Guests receive $1 off Rave Meal Deals.

June 21 & 22: Megamind

June 28 & 29: Yogi Bear

July 5 & 6: Diary of a Wimpy Kid

July 12 & 13: Live Large

July 19 & 20: Ramona and Beezus

July 26 & 27: The Lightening Thief

August 2 & 3: Narnia

August 9 & 10: Gulliver’s Travels

Not everything can be free, but the following theater offers a super discounted summer program for just $1 per person along with a great deal to appease those hungry bellies.

For a total of $5, you and your child can get the full effect of the movies without paying regular movie theater prices.

Carmike 16 (1700 Catasauqua Rd., Allentown (610) 264-9624)

Per a representative at the theater, Carmike’s Summer Kids’ Series starts on June 23 and runs every Thursday through August 25.

Each show begins at 10 a.m. on Thursdays, but as with the Rave it’s best to get there a little early to assure a good seat. The cost is $1 per person.

 A $4 “Kids’ Pack” (popcorn, small drink and small fruit snack) is also offered as a special during these showings.

Please note: AMC and Regal Cinemas no longer offer the discounted $1 movies, which were previously offered. According to a representative at each theater, they had low turnout in past years, and came to the decision to eliminate the program in our area.
